This is an exciting period for people to travel an as there are now very few inaccessible places on this planet. Wherever it is you want to visit, there will be numerous sources of information online at special travel sites. Let’s face it, when you can book whatever vacation you like using a website, why bother going to a travel agent. Gone are the days when travel agents were popular and sought after as websites have popped up everywhere and promise all of their customer’s extraordinary savings.
I know it is the norm now but I am not comfortable planning my once a year vacation like this. Being form the old school, it is nice to sit down and talk to a person who will actually listen to what I am saying. My travel agent is also used to me changing my travel plans and knows that I will complain if something is not right. I have never found it easy dealing with travel sites especially when I want to have a discussion with someone before I make a decision on something; plus on the very rare occasion you manage to get through to a support line, they are not as helpful as someone sitting in front of you.
They may say something just to appease you and it will not hold true in the end. It is because of the number of things that can go wrong I still prefer to use my local travel agent even if it does take a little more time and there may be more to pay. One of my friends only ever uses the travel sites to book her vacations but she does like the last minute discounts that can be found which are much easier to find using the internet. She is good at this and saves hundreds of dollars of the proper price and has always had a good vacation.
I’m not one for last minute travel although I suppose I could be if my schedule was more flexible but my job requires me to ask for vacation months in advance. I don’t doubt for one minute that by using a travel site can be less expensive as you can also get discounts on tours and car hire by booking this way. Although I actually spend time with my travel agent, I do actually carry out a great deal of research on prospective locations before I make up my mind. It may not be fair on my travel agent but at least I know if something goes wrong, I will have someone to complain to on my return.
